Formwork Tie Rod System: Components and RFQ Guide
A typical concrete formwork tie system uses a threaded Tie Rod with compatible Scaffolding Wing Nuts, Anchor Nuts and, where the project requires a barrier at through-wall tie locations, a Formwork Water Stopper. The exact combination depends on the formwork system, concrete wall design and project drawing.
1. Tie Rod
The tie rod passes through the shuttering assembly and provides the threaded member used to hold opposing formwork faces together. For procurement, specify diameter, thread, overall length, material or finish and quantity.
2. Scaffolding Wing Nut
Wing nuts are used for tightening and releasing the tie-rod assembly during erection and dismantling. Compatibility should be checked against the tie rod thread and the formwork system.
3. Anchor Nut
Anchor nuts provide a fixed threaded connection point within a formwork or shuttering arrangement. Drawings or dimensional details are useful where the project requires a specific anchor-nut profile.
4. Formwork Water Stopper / Water Barrier
Water stoppers are used at tie-rod paths where the project requires water-resistant detailing around a through-wall tie location. They are relevant to retaining walls, basements, tanks and other concrete structures where water ingress must be considered in the formwork detail.
