GI Earthing Strip vs HDG Flat: What Should You Specify?
GI earthing strip and HDG flat can look similar, but they are usually purchased for different project requirements. The correct item should be selected from the electrical or structural specification rather than by appearance alone.
GI Earthing Strip
GI earthing strip is used for grounding, bonding and lightning-protection systems. Enquiries should include strip width, thickness, length or total running length and quantity. See GI Earthing Strip.
HDG Flat
HDG flat is hot-dip galvanised steel flat bar used for fabrication, support work, structural and exposed project applications where a galvanised finish is specified. Enquiries should include width, thickness, length, galvanising requirement and quantity. See HDG Flat.
How to Avoid a Wrong Quote
If the BOQ says earthing strip, share the electrical specification and required dimensions. If it calls for galvanised flat for structural or fabrication use, share the base material/grade, dimensions and galvanising requirement. Browse related Construction Items or send the BOQ for a combined quotation.
